Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is often regarded with dread as though there can be no recovery.   This is not true.

People who have schizophrenia suffer from a brain disorder which distorts and/or confuses their thinking.

They may hear things that others cannot hear, see things that others cannot see, smell things that others cannot smell.

They may be fearful of other people.  They may be afraid to sleep or eat food for fear that it has been contaminated in some way.

It is the nature of this illness that the person who has it often cannot recognize that they have the illness.   This condition is called  anosognosia or “lack of insight.”   For this reason, the person may not see the need for treatment.

If you have a loved one in your family exhibiting this set of symptoms,  please call.   Living with a person who has schizophrenia affects the entire family.   Mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers are all affected by trying to find solutions.   We are familiar with these issues and stand ready to help.
